“The Square Peg in a Round Hole”

African-Americans, Latinos, and other minority groups haven’t always had the most harmonious of relationships with the police. Unfortunately, that reality has often made some minorities working in the profession feel like they had to choose between their race and their profession. It’s not easy, but with a little ingenuity and a lot of hard work, these law enforcement professionals have been able to fit that SQUARE PEG of who they are into that ROUND HOLE of what they do.

The Black in Blue Podcast celebrates and discusses the roles of African-American and other minority law enforcement professionals in the U.S. It is the brainchild of its host, Dale Peters. Dale has over 20 years of law enforcement experience. He has worked a variety of assignments in his career, including local police, state, and federal law enforcement. He has worked financial and fraud investigations. He has worked major narcotics investigations on a multi-agency task force. And he has trained new police officers as a FTO (Field Training Officer). But one of his most challenging and rewarding assignments is that of School Resource Officer (SRO) at a local high school. Dale relished the role of mentor and counselor to those youths and often spoke with them about drug awareness, personal safety, career & educational goals, and life choices. He often discussed Hip Hop music culture with the kids and, from time to time, even schooled them in an occasional freestyle rap battle! The kids, particularly those of color, often commented how they liked seeing a down-to-Earth police officer that looks like them and understood many of their experiences.

Dale is also an accomplished event DJ and MC. He has announced and played at hundreds of public and private events over the years. He uses his unique experience as a police officer to make him a better performer. In turn, Dale used his experience as an MC to be a better communicator during law enforcement activities. Dale will bring all of his knowledge, skills, and abilities to the podcast to make it both entertaining and enlightening.
